Brookdale’s psychiatry department is proud to include not only a fully accredited general psychiatry residency program with 20 residents, but also advanced fellowship training in the sub-specialty of Child and Adolescent psychiatry, with 6 fellows. In order to practice psychiatry, graduates of medical schools must train as residents alongside and under the supervision of more experienced psychiatrists for a minimum of four years. From the beginning, Brookdale’s mission was not only to care for its patients, but to train the next generation of physicians. Brookdale has expanded over the years to become a full-service teaching hospital campus that sponsors nine active ACGME accredited residencies and fellowship programs with 200 residents and fellows who receive their training on Brookdale Campus. The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) medical services provider that is a critical part of the healthcare delivery system in Brooklyn, New York.
